A trencher punctured a 2 inch natural gas line causing gas to be released to atmosphere. The damage occurred on a lateral pipeline transverse of a main transmission line. The main transmission line was marked, but the operator failed to mark the lateral line that was in proximity of the excavation. The gas lost during this incident was 4,187 mcf which exceeded the reporting threshold. Natural gas service was lost to the town of taylor, nd.
