Narrative
At approximately 1:11 pm on november 6, 2012, nw natural was notified that a motorcyclist slid and tore out the square frame and cover for a 4' plug valve located between 36538 and 36600 jasper road, jasper, or. Both test risers were bent and one was leaking below the threads resulting in the release of natural gas. Nwn first responder arrived on site at approximately 1:35 pm and found that the police department had established the perimeter, closed hwy 222 and union pacific railroad. The cyclist was injured and transported to sacred heart medical center at river bend. Gas was controlled at 2:45 pm. Union pacific railroad was opened by 3:30 pm and repairs were completed and hwy 222 was reopened for traffic at approximately 6:30 pm. The incident was reported to the nrc (national reporting center) on november 12, 2012, due to personal injury necessitating in-patient hospitalization. Nw natural received confirmation of the hospitalization on november 12, 2012 from the lane county sheriff's department.
