Narrative
Plumber struck 1" pe service while using snake to clear sewer line blockage. Escaping gas ignited, damaging home. No injuries. One customer restored, second will be out of service until fire damage to house is repaired. Investigation determined gas service was installed at this location using trenchless boring construction techniques in 1979. Bore went through non-metallic sewer lateral plumber did not follow socalgas recommendation/request to contact the utility prior to clearing blockages in an exterior sewer line.
