Narrative
On 14 october, 2011, at approximately 1940, the belton operator was conducting a station yard check and discovered low sulphur diesel (61 grade) product on the ground in the vicinity of the local oil delivery pump. The pump was not running at the time. The operator notified his supervisor and began clean up activities. Approximately 5 gallons of free standing product was recovered. 15.6 tons of affected soil was removed. Analysis indicated the soil contained an additional 14 gallons of product (total 19 gallons released). The soil was handled in accordance with the environmental technician's instructions and will be disposed of using approved methods. The oil delivery pump was dissassembled and a failed seal was discovered as the most likely source of the release. The pump has been removed from service and sent to a pump shop for repairs. The released product remained on company presence, did not affect ground or surface water, and was less than 5 bbls. No outside agency notifications were required or performed.
