Narrative
A centerpoint energy contractor was attempting to install anodes on a 1949, 12 inch steel gas main in a class three neighborhood. The contractor drilled through the top of the main with an earth auger leaving a hole almost three inches in diameter. This line had been accurately marked just south of the intersection of 30th st ne and stinson blvd ne at the site of the damage. The line was one way fed and was left in service until a bypass could be constructed and the gas flow stopped without losing any customers. Final repairs were made the following afternoon by welding a patch over the damage and then subsequently a full circumference cover sleeve over the entire area.
