Narrative
Columbia crews responded to find a third party directional bore contractor installing a 42" sanitary sewer had spotted columbia's 10" treated steel gas main line at one location. The third party excavator attempted to directional bore perpendicular under our 10" facility at a separate location and failed to expose our properly located facility at the point it was struck. Columbia crews set a perimeter, monitored for gas migration and maintained public safety by coordinating with the local authorities. Columbia immediately brought in a pipeline contractor and bypassed around the damaged section of main line and made permanent repairs. Columbia worked on the leak continuous until permanent repairs were completed. The triggering event that made this damage reportable was that the costs associated with the damage exceeded the $50,000 dollar reporting threshold.
