***this report is for record purposes only. Final investigation determined this does not meet DOT reporting criteria*** on wednesday march 9, 2011 at 1433 hrs gas emergency response group (erg) vitale reported to the gas emergency response center (gerc) a 3 alarm fire at #748 manida st. In the bronx. Gas distribution services (gds) and supervision were dispatched and reported the new york city fire department (fdny) was on location. Gds reported shutting the curb valve to #754 manida st. At 1522 hrs, but were unable to verify shutdown. The fire originated in #754 manida st., which is a 40 family apartment house supplied by a 3" low pressure steel service. The fire spread to buildings #750 and #748 manida st., and gds was unable to locate the curb valves for these buildings due to fdny activity. Gas construction-emergency response force (erf) responded to location and once fdny granted access to the area, erf cut and capped the services to #750 & #754 manida st. The service supplying #748 manida st was turned off at the service valve by gds and was verified holding. An investigation into the cause of the fire, which media attributed as possibly gas-related, was conducted by fdny fire marshal bill law. The fire was determined not to be gas related.
