Narrative
This is not DOT reportable! This report is for record purposes only. On january 18, 2011 the new york fire department (fdny) reported a building fire and a high co condition at 60 knolls crescent, bronx, new york to the gas emergency response center (gerc). Gas distribution services (gds) responded and reported that there was a con edison electric emergency responder on location. Gds investigated and reported that there was an active gas fed fire outside the building in the grass area where the customer-owned gas and electric services cross (inside the property line). Gds and the fdny located and shut the curb valve on the service at 16:09 and the fire was extinguished. Cooking gas supplying 120 apartments was interrupted but the gas boiler was not affected as it is supplied from a separate service. At 18:17 the electric service to building was cut and the electric related evacuation ended. Gds reported that the fire appeared to have been where the customer-owned electric cable crossed over the customer-owned 4" low pressure steel gas service (inside the property line). Bronx gas construction excavated over the main and cut the gas service off for safety. On january 19, 2011 a new service to the building was installed and service was restored. There was less than $50,000.00 in damages (small patch of grass only) and upon consultation with usdot representative wayne chan, this is not DOT reportable. There were no injuries and this is an upgraded level incident.
