Narrative
Water accumulation in the vent tube of a 1/2 inch thermal relief valve froze causing the valve to fail. Several days of unusually cold temperatures contributed to the incident. Extra operational employees were onsite to deal with potential problems associated with the below normal temperatures. Operations and maintenance personnel were able to isolate the system quickly to minimize the event. Estimated amount released was 10 gallons or less.
